Historical Toxicology and Industry Practice For a Chlorinated Compound

Gradient analyzed company and trade association documents and public scientific literature spanning several decades relating to a widely used industrial chlorinated compound. We evaluated the publicly available scientific literature on toxicity testing practices for this compound over time; particularly changes in the rigor of animal testing and how industry and regulators weighed the significance of animal data to assess human health risks. We also evaluated the permitted uses of this chemical and the implications of such uses with respect to human exposures. Our review provided a basis for offering scientific opinions on how the understanding of the toxicity of this chlorinated compound evolved over ti
