Product Safety Evaluation of Wood-Treating Chemicals
Gradient evaluated toxicity and risks to workers and nearby residents from exposure to three wood preservatives: creosote; pentachorophenol (PCP); and chromated copper arsenate (CCA). We evaluated each chemical; including chemistry and environmental fate and transport; exposure pathways; toxic effects; and regulatory and advisory numbers. We also analyzed the dermal effect of creosote in occupational settings; the evidence for elevated cancer risk from PCP exposure; and health risks from exposures to sawdust from CCA-treated wood. Gradient's work was used to support product defen
