Careers: Continuous Recruiting

Gradient will consider hiring highly qualified staff even if specific position openings are not being pursued.

Critical thinking, supported by a foundation of rock-solid scientific, research, writing, and client development skills are hallmarks of successful Gradient staff. The ability to communicate technical concepts persuasively, both in writing and orally, cannot be overstated.

Staff at all levels must be proficient at researching and distilling technical literature and regulations, with the assistance of Gradient's excellent library group. We also seek staff with specialized computer skills, such as statistical, graphing, and modeling expertise. Advancement is based on merit, and we encourage each individual to assume increasing responsibilities in task management, project management, company service, and client or agency contact.

Principal Level Candidates
Candidates must have national peer and client recognition of their technical expertise, and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, agencies, the public, and in court. Complimentary skills in risk or environmental sciences, and a relentless eye for quality and service are the attributes we seek. Gradient principals must have demonstrated sales success and be leaders in their scientific area.

Risk Scientists: Toxicologist
We look for scientists with a background in biology or physiology, with an emphasis on toxicology (reproductive, developmental, inhalation, etc.). Experience in human health or ecological risk assessment, working knowledge of U.S. EPA RAGS, and knowledge of IRIS and other sources of regulatory toxicity information is required. Strong analytical skills and demonstrated written and oral communication skills are imperative.

Risk Scientists: Risk Assessor
We hire scientists with risk assessment experience focused on exposure analysis, especially quantitative methods relating to chemical bioavailability, bioaccumulation, statistical and Monte Carlo analysis, etc. Experience in human health risk assessment and working knowledge of U.S. EPA RAGS guidance is required. Strong analytical and computer skills as well as demonstrated written and oral communication skills are key factors.

Environmental Engineer
We seek engineers with environmental site assessment experience, understanding of remediation technologies, and ability to model chemical fate & transport.  Working knowledge of U.S. EPA RI/FS process, ASTM site assessment, RCRA investigations, and environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, TSCA) is required. Knowledge of wastewater engineering, groundwater control technologies, hazardous site remedial technologies, and landfills is also important. Strong analytical, computer, and writing capabilities are essential. (Not a field position, we interpret data).

Environmental Scientist
We seek environmental scientists with a solid technical background in environmental chemistry, hydrogeology, environmental biology, or oceanography. A working knowledge of environmental regulations, environmental standards/criteria, and contaminant fate & transport science, such as natural attenuation mechanisms is important. Strong analytical, computer, and writing capabilities are essential.

Epidemiologist
Focus on environmental and human health risk assessment issues by performing toxicological and epidemiological analysis, emission and transport modeling, statistics, chemical fingerprinting, database management, creative data visualization, biomonitoring design, and biokinetic modeling. Project work involves interesting science-based evaluations and includes projects such as litigation support, regulatory comment, and site-specific human health risk assessment. Strong oral and written skills required. Position requires M.S./Ph.D. in epidemiology or related field. Knowledge of environmental regulations, statistics, and prior consulting experience a plus.
