Report on Carcinogens: Indium Compounds

The National Toxicology Program recently released a request for public comment on nominations to the Report on Carcinogens (RoC). The RoC is a congressionally mandated, science-based, public health report that identifies substances that may pose an increased cancer risk. Each substance profile provides a review of the current human and animal cancer studies, the potential sources of exposure, and current Federal regulations limiting exposure. Indium compounds have been nominated to the RoC. The information requested includes:

  • Data on current production and use patterns for indium products;
  • Human exposure to indium;
  • Information about ongoing or planned indium carcinogenicity studies; and
  • Scientific issues important for assessing carcinogenicity.

The deadline for submission of public comments on the nominated substances is February 28, 2012. Gradient routinely assists companies with evaluating exposure and carcinogenicity data and preparing regulatory comments. Please contact our team should you need assistance.

Rare Earth Elements: Upcoming Events

Gradient scientists are actively involved in the evaluation of sustainable development processes for rare earth element resources. We are participating in the following conferences:

Ari Lewis, David Mayfield, and Kim Reid will present "Rare Earth Elements & Green Energy Technology: Preliminary Hazard Analysis" on Monday, January 30 at the Energy, Utility and the Environment Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

Neal Grasso will speak on Environmental Issues and Rare Earth Elements at the REE World's Technology Metals Summit 2012, February 1-2, 2012, in Toronto, Canada.

Dave Mayfield and Neal Grasso will present "Environmental Issues Associated with Expanding Rare Earth Resources" during the Geology: Rare Earths: Markets and Policy session at the Annual Conference of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME), February 19-22 in Seattle, Washington.
